Hockey Lives On Without The NHL, Or Newflash: It's Cold!

Man it's cold as I sit here in the basement typing this! The house that I live in here in Ann Arbor has a gas furnace, but none of the heating vents warm the basement. As a result, I have to use this computer while wrapped up in a blanket in order to tolerate the cold! Just another reason why I can't wait for winter to kindly move along and let Spring in to warm things up.

I finally got around to checking out the Ann Arbor Ice Cube today (arena where the US Junior Development program is HQ'ed). Nice rink, has three sheets of ice (one of them Olympic-sized), a sports therapy clinic, a hockey pro shop and a nice canteen. In the next few weeks, I will definitely be taking in a game to watch some future stars light it up!

Also, I bought tickets for the playoffs that are coming up in NCAA Division 1 hockey. I will be going to the first game of the preliminary round with the University of Michigan defending its home ice against a still-to-be determined opponent. Should definitely kick ass!

NHL who??

JSB + The Internet = A Good Reason To Be Alive

Hey all, I'm having a laidback weekend, taking it easy as I had a busy week. I went and saw Constantine just this afternoon. Keanu Reeves may not be the best actor on the face of the Earth, but the story line made up for it, good popcorn movie!

I'm currently listening to the JSB (Jimmy Swift Band) over the internet via http://www.archive.org, they have dozens of concerts on there catalogued, so check it out sometime (just type "jimmy swift band" in the search field on the main page) and prepare to be blown out of the water!!

Seriously, their new tunes are as dark as night and rockin, so if the band got stale on you after playing onwardthroughthefog stuff over the past year or so, these songs are like a breath of fresh air...!

No Puck = A Sad Day in Canada

So the NHL season's been cancelled. Screw you players and owners, all that money and you don't appreciate how good you've all got it!

Hopefully, they'll work things out before the draft so Sidney Crosby can be drafted, thus beginning the slow healing process...

Promises, Shromises (Or, I Need To Blog More Often!)

Well, I broke my promise, sorry to all those looking for more frequent blog postings! I'll definitely try working posting into my nightly routine, even if it's only a sentence or two!

Well, things here are going ok, even if past the quarter post of my internship I'm wondering what I do next. Fortunately, I should know by the end of this month of Humantech's plans for interns for the summer and thus I should be able to plan for the immeadiate future. I want to be able to serve back to back internships, as some co-op students do two stints at this business, but if not, I am weighing a number of options.

I am thinking of moving to Southern Ontario at the end of this internship if Humantech is not able to have me for concurrent sessions (J1 VISA requirements may shoot that down) and apply for work in Windsor, London, or even in Toronto. Hopefully of course, they will be able to have me back, but it's prudent to always have a Plan B instead of blind optimism driving the agenda. Having said that, I am confident that my hard work will be recognized in a manner beneficial to my career.

As for my personal life, I've been doing a weekend-to-weekend tour of Ann Arbor bars, and they are pretty good, though I miss my favorite joints back in Freddy Beach as well. I've been also watching some NCAA hockey, as I went to a U of M game about three weeks ago. They lost for the first time in a year and a half at home (so much for my luck) against the University of Northern Michigan. The next game I'll be going to see is one against Bowling Green U from Ohio!

Well I gotta get ready for another nite out on the town, I'll be sure to write more often, even if it's not on a nightly basis!

Random Writings From An Anonymous Cubicle Dweller...

When you work in an office and type reports all day, typing when you're off work is one of the last things you want to do, so I guess that explains the lack of posting over the past week or so. I'll try to post whenever I'm on in the evening more often. Promise.

Anyhow, the past week contained more nervous engine light watching, which gradually gave way to acceptance that's just a sign that my car ain't young no more. It's like the 12 steps program for crappy car owners in denial!

So the other day, my employers told me that as an intern, I was entitled to recycle the cans and bottles in the lunchroom for extra cash. It was a nice gesture, but I couldn't help but feel really poor when I was putting the returnables in the appropriate machines. Cool setup though, you put a glass bottle in, some arm inside the machine whacks it and shatters it to smithereens! What fun!!

I guess the moral of this post is that I oughta update this thing more often. There's plenty of worthwhile things to write about, but to do them in blurbs like this every week or so doesn't do them justice!

So....

See you tomorrow, same time same place!
